Eric Stone Campaign

June 10th

 

A Request from the City Watch :

As the rest of the group is resting and recovering from yesterdays adventures, Rudolf goes to visit Vendry's. When he enters upper Calistin Tad whispers from the shadows for his attention. Tad asks if Bjorn is well and warns that Korn from the City watch has been looking for him.

It turns out that Sgt Korn a dwarf soldier and his boss Captain Eban have acquired warrants for the groups arrest on multiple murder charges. Apparently Councilor Ilyra Boromar of lower Dura, of which Callistin is a district is un-happy with what is happening. But all can be made well. If the group is able to help setup a watch post in lower Callistin then all will be forgiven. Korn recommends killing the Dask and notifying them when this work is done. To assist in inspiring the group to 'do the right thing' he has a gnome place a mark of the watch on some party members. The mark will allow the city watch to know the location of the group for the next 10 days. They are given 6 days to clear lower Calistin.

June 11th

The Dask and the Dhkanni Empire:

The party learns that the Dask are working with Horath Bal a hob-goblin from the Dhkanni Empire and a direct representative to the General-King Sekrin. Horath and his right hand man another hob-goblan warrior GalDesh are working with Keshta of the Dask. The exact arrangement between these forces is not known but Horath seems to be running things. He has about 2 score goblins, and a handful of hog-goblins and bugbears under his command and has control of lower Masons tower, next to where the group is working. Horath explains that if the group is willing to help him clean out some undead and kill a vampire in the sewers below then he will allow the sharn watch to setup a post on the streets outside. The Dask have a significant presence in the area as-well. The group has seen a pair of worgs, a gnoll and a harpy as well as the gnoll sub-commander Keshta.

Given the size of the Dhkanni presence the group decides that killing all the dask and the goblins is more then they can handle. Rudolf goes back to the Sgt and asks if a truce would be OK. Korn is reluctant at first but agrees that if the group can get the Dask to agree to not sell drugs in the area then an agreement is possible. Horath agrees that this would be acceptable but asks the group to hastily work on clearing the undead, he would like to return to the Empire with what he came for.

Horath asks that if the group finds a room with an island surrounded by lava they should come back and inform him. This is the area that he is searching for.

A treaty with the Kobald Clan:

With preparations set, the group approaches the kobalds. The plan is to establish a working treaty with them and leave Eric and Greg to conduct the research. Well. things don't go as planned. The group starts a war with the kobalds. A war that does not last long. The kobalds are overrun and exterminated. Only a few adults and most of the broodlings escape down a narrow hole.

With the shop secure Eric begins his investigation.

The kobalds have been displaced from the sewers by the Dask. The middle room is large and filled with debris that has been carefully moved to the center by Jason. The kobalds have tunneled through each side walls (damaging part of the murals) and have set this room up as the main nest. It is apparent from the state of the room that this is where Jason Stone was working most of the mosaic has been cleaned and is readable.

Scenes on the mosaics:

    • Lord Tarkanan and his wife the queen of plagues holding council 8 members around them. (Halis and Shedina)
    • Blood: A lycanthrope giving blood into a bowl, another man holding a blood stone “Red with gold swirals”
    • Water: A pool of water surrounded by flames with a man being submerged by the Lord, another man collects water into a vase. (ritual of purification instructions on the wall)
    • Potion: The queen of plagues grinding a glowing stone to powder and mixing it with lycanthrope blood (Potion instructions in writing)
    • Fire: A man on a marble stone drinking a red potion, swearls of hundreds of different dragon marks above him, Lord and Lady chanting (Traveler god incantations in writing)
    • Purification: The man standing with a dragon mark glowing on his skin as Lord Tarkanan poors water from a vase over the mark. (instructions to also drink of the water)

     

    About 1/3 of it is still black with soot and grime. If a DM is cast the outline of what may be magical writing is visible in each panel. No gift is without it's price, is clearly visiable in common.

June 12th

Adventures below the sewers of Sharn:

Mostly healthy and ready for a bit of fighting with some simple skeletons the group enters Dask territory. GalDesh shows the group down through the sewers to where the goblins have dug a tunnel down to chambers below. The group enters cautious as Rudolf explains that the task is to clear the skeletons and return with the head of the vampire that controls the area. Monet mentions that without magic such a task will be exceedingly difficult. They go on anyway's, meeting a pair of skeleton guards. The battle with the bone guardians is more difficult then Bjorn, Monet and the new elf Veran expect. With one skeleton down the group retreats back to the ladder, to plan their next assault.

June 13th

Recovery and research:

While Bjorn and Monet and Veran collecting the right equipment to fight undead. Greg and Eric continue working on the mural room.

A New Reporter :

Bjron and Monet continue to be interested in fame. The contact the main office of the Sharn Inquisitive and request a new reporter. The chief editor says he will have a 1/2 friend of his meet the group at the braised rabbit, Jammia.

June 14th

Perhaps a story:

The meeting with Jammia is not a total loss. The 1/2 elf agrees that the group may have an interesting story, he gives them a small device that can be activated to notify Jammia that he should cast his clairvoyance spell to see what the group is doing.

That afternoon with new war hammers, and temporally magic weapons the group heads below again. This time they manage to defeat several skeletons and a pair of Thralls before retreating. GalDesh is impressed with the head of the Thrall, but he informs them that a Thrall is a slave of a vampire and not the dark creature it 'self. The group will need to go down again.

June 15-16th

Healing and waiting :

As the group is healing from the latest fight they check in with Eric to see what he has found out so far.

The writing on the walls tells of the creation of a great device in Hadrons tomb. A device powered by the magma and magic of the manifest zone. A device that is capable of changing a person to one with a dragon mark. The writing has instructions for how to access the hidden room in Hadrons tomb, and how to activate it. Carved on the floor below the last panel is a warning. “Unstable, magma rising, pool gone, air is fire”. “No gift is without it’s cost”

 

In Hadrons tomb their should be a plinth that acts as the focal point for the device of marking. For the plinth to function correctly a cleansing ritual is required first. The supplicant must bath in the pool of Onatairs tears (Eric is not sure where this place is we should contact an official of the Sovering Host). After the cleansing the supplicant must travel to the Plinth on the edge of the manifest zone in Hadrons tomb(Eric tells the group that Hadrons tomb is just outside the city in the Necropolis) their they will drink a potion created from lycanthrope blood and ground blood stone. (Eric thinks that a blood stone is an Ebberon Dragon shard, He has now idea where to get Lycanthrope blood), and place themselves on the plinth. Once on the plinth the transformation ritual begins. Any dragon mark can be chosen, the mind of the supplicant can see all possiable marks the ritual will focus their mind on the mark Halas Tarkanan wants for them. (Eric is not sure how this would work. Most of the marks described he has never heard of, he does not know what they would do.) If the supplicant choses one that is not allowed for their race they will perish. If they choose well the mark will be imprinted on their body. They then have just a few moments to drink of the holy water from the pool of Onatair’s tears and douse the flaming mark with the water. It will take Eric about 2 more weeks to figure out how to transcribe all the spells that would be needed to make this work.

Before Eric publishes his brothers work he would like to complete the spell on at-least one individual. This will be massive news. 1500 years ago in the war of the Mark the 12 houses of the Syberis marks destroyed Halas and nearly obliterated all the abberant(Kyber) marks. A machine that can imprint a mark of the persons choosing is unheard of. With his brothers work and an example of the effects of the imprinting, he will publish the greatest magic text since the creation of elemental binding. A whole new college of magic can be founded.
